Rebuilt checkout for a 40,000-SKU store

The problem

Cart abandonment sat at 78 percent. Pricing rules for bulk orders were calculated in JavaScript, so the total occasionally disagreed with the invoice, which support then had to explain.

What we built

Pricing moved server-side behind one endpoint used by the cart, the invoice and the admin panel. Checkout went from seven steps to three, with address autofill and saved GST details for trade buyers.

The result

Abandonment fell to 54 percent. Pricing disputes stopped, because there is now exactly one place where a price is decided.
